and faster decisions, leading
to a happier and healthier Zoo.
We used ‘Safari Ramat Gan’ as a case study for our solution.
Research is based on Information gathering, interview with a Zoologist from The Safari, and through questionnaires sent to Zookeepers.
We decided to curate the extensive data as a drill down navigation structure, Starting from the most general information to diving into specific areas.
The app not only displays statistics, but also translates it as data patterns for suggesting beneficial conclusions.
There are no existing apps in the market for Zookeepers. We chose to display in a familiar, daily calendar format that displays the daily missions.
With that, we made sure that each task would be broken down into smaller tasks, in order to achieve better concentration, and encourage motivation by ticking off the boxes upon completion.
Based on our conducted research, we emphasized the importance of a modern, bright, and friendly UI, inspired by leading management apps.
The final design blends best practices with custom visual elements tailored specifically to the needs of the Zookeepers and the Managers.
One of these aspects makes for a custom icon system created to facilitate quick information consumption, to reduce cognitive load.
For the Manager,
we implemented a three-color statistics theme to convey animal status efficiently across various data displays, including tags, charts, and background colors when filters are applied.
To ensure these three status colors remain central and easily recognizable, the interface avoids colorful UI choices.
For the Zookeeper,
there is a dominant green color, symbolizing nature. Subtle design details, like leaf shadow illustrations in the break-time blocks, enriches the nature's atmosphere in the app.
Animal photos are included to help Zookeepers quickly identify the species they need to report on, while photos of work colleagues are displayed within mission blocks to foster team awareness and collaboration.
